HESQ Manager

About the Unit

We are looking for a HESQ Manager to join Yara Animal Nutrition South Africa (Pty) Ltd in Durban . This position will be instrumental in implementing and enforcing the Yara HESQ principles and will be responsible for ensuring legislative compliance at this Chemical Manufacturing site.

The position will be located in Umbogintwini, South Africa, will be part of the Senior Management team, and will report to the Managing Director.

Responsibilities

  • Implementation of, and compliance with National and Yara HESQ standards and systems; this includes company HESQ Operating Standards (HOPS) and Safe by Choice strategies
  • Manage the processes, systems and reporting for activities related to safety walks, near miss/hazardous conditions, behavioral safety and accident statistical information
  • Incident investigation internally and externally
  • Competence development by training all parties on safety principles, standards and procedures
  • Contribute to the development, approval and monitoring of contractors safety plans
  • Perform operational risk assessments and identify key elements of focus to reduce incidents
  • Participate in projects and ensure all security and safety requirements are met
  • Arrange, organize and participate in internal, external and customer related audits
  • Achieve incident and accident performance targets as defined by Yara
  • Maintain and improve where possible certification status of various loss control initiatives such as NOSA, ISO quality and environmental programs
  • Manage the laboratory to ensure efficiency and accuracy of analyses are maintained and improve analytical methodology and practices where possible
  • Responsible for cost control and report for the HESQ area
  • Responsible for legislative reporting

Profile

  • Relevant tertiary education (3-year diploma/degree)
  • At least 5 years’ experience as Safety Manager in the Chemical Manufacturing Industry/similar
  • Extensive knowledge regarding South African Legislation (Safety, Health & Environmental)
  • Experience in an international company will be an advantage
  • In depth knowledge and understanding of Hazard Identification and risk control
  • Good change management and project management skills
  • Ability to plan and work in a systematic manner; train and coach at all levels in the organization
  • Candidates should be flexible to travel overseas (infrequent)
